COUNTY 4-H B.L.A.S.T. TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES  

 

GOAL AND PHILOSOPHY OF THE AWARD:

The position as a B.L.A.S.T. (Becoming a Leader All Star in Training) team member gives 4-H youth the opportunity to use their leadership and community service skills to assist the All Star Team at the county level as a year-long commitment.  There will be up to a maximum of four (4) members selected annually, 13-19 yrs old by Dec. 31, 2017, for their outstanding project work, leadership and community service, and to help the All Star Team assume county leadership roles in their reigning year of 2017-18.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BLAST TEAM

  1. Work together as a team along with the All Stars to represent the Glenn County 4-H program.  Represent 4-H at civic and community affairs to share 4-H experiences and promote 4-H as requested.
  2. Each member of the B.L.A.S.T. team is required to help with the Star Awards Program. 
  3. Help the All Stars as needed at two or more of the following countywide events: Livestock Field Day, Livestock Challenge, Food Fiesta, Home Ec. Field Day, Fashion Revue, Presentation Day, Fundraising Dinner.
  4. Attend at least two of the Glenn County 4-H Council meetings that are held on the third Monday of each month, except if there is a holiday on that Monday, it would be held on Tuesday. There are no Council meetings in May, July & December.
  5. The B.L.A.S.T. team will need to hold meetings, as needed, help to promote the Glenn County 4-H program, may be asked to help at any officer trainings, presentation trainings or record book trainings that are offered.
  6. Plan, implement and carry out a countywide community service sometime throughout 2017-18 as a team.

ELIGIBILITY:

Minimum qualifications - All 4-H members are eligible to apply for the B.L.A.S.T. team recognition if all of the following are true:

?   be 13-19 yrs old by Dec. 31, 2017 for the next 4-H year (2017-18);

?   be currently enrolled in the Glenn County 4-H Program;

?   have completed two or more years of 4-H;

?   have earned the Silver Star rank as of June 2016

APPLICATION:

? submit an application, 4-H record book and letter of recommendation, and a current photo for publicity purposes by Thursday, March 23, 2017 to the UCCE Office (no postmarks accepted).

INTERVIEW:      

? attend an interview on Thursday, April 6, 2017, beginning at 6:30 p.m. You will need to call to schedule your interview time.

GLENN COUNTY 4-H ALL STAR SELECTION PROCEDURES

  

GOAL AND PHILOSOPHY OF THE AWARD

There will be up to, but not exceeding, four members ages 15-19 years old, as of Dec. 31, 2017, chosen annually for the All Star Team.  The County 4-H All Star is the highest recognition for 4-H members in Glenn County. It recognizes individuals for their outstanding leadership, community service and project work. Being an All Star is an opportunity for further experience and growth in public speaking, leadership and community involvement.  

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ALL STAR TEAM 

  1. Work together as a team along with the BLAST Team to represent the Glenn County 4-H program. Represent 4-H at civic and community affairs to share 4-H experiences and promote 4-H as requested.
  2. Each member of the All Star team is required to help with the Star Awards Program.
  3. Help or organize at least three or more countywide events as outlined in the All Star program.
  4. Attend at least 2 of the Glenn County 4-H Council meetings that are held on the third Monday of each month, except if there is a holiday on that Monday, it would be held on Tuesday. There are no Council meetings in December, May or July.
  5. The All Star team will need to hold meetings with the B.L.A.S.T. team to plan and organize events, assign duties at each event, training, or meeting the team is requested, and plan fundraisers for the team expenses for the year including the State Leadership Conference.
  6. Plan, implement and carry out a countywide community service sometime throughout 2017-18 as a team.
  7. Plan, organize and assist with the Leader’s Appreciation Dinner.

ELIGIBILITY 

  • be 15 years by Dec. 31, 2017 or older for the next 4-H year (2017-2018); 
  • be currently enrolled in the Glenn County 4-H Program; 
  • have completed three or more years of 4-H; 
  • have earned the Gold Star rank as of June 2016; 
  • be willing to attend the State Leadership Conference, if selected; July 20-23, 2017 at University of California Davis

APPLICATION 

Submit a completed, signed application, 4-H record book, 3 letters of recommendation, not from anyone related to applicant, and a current photo for publicity purposes by Thursday, March 23, 2017 to the UCCE Office (no postmarks accepted). 

INTERVIEW 

Attend an interview on Thursday, April 6, 2017, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the UCCE Office.  Please call the office to schedule your interview time.

1. All Star Selection information and applications will be available in February 2017.

2. All Star Applicants must:                                                                                  

 Submit an application, 4-H record book and three letters of recommendation (non-relative), and a current photo for publicity purposes by Thursday, March 23, 2017. (Must be in UCCE Office by deadline; no late postmarks accepted.)

Attend an interview on Thursday, April 6, 2017; it is the applicant’s responsibility to schedule an interview time.

  1. The All Star Selection Committee will be selected by the County 4-H Staff and Council President. Key club leaders may submit a list of potential committee members. The committee should comprise of three to five community members representing business, education, other youth organizations and past 4-H involvement.  The committee may be a combination of Glenn County and out of county residents. No committee members should be related or a friend of any of the All Star applicants.
  1. The committee will meet on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. to review the applications, record books and letters of recommendation. The committee will also finalize the interview questions. The interviews will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided to the selection committee.
  1. The applicants will be notified of the committee’s final selection by posting the results on the UCCE Office door on Friday, April 7, 2017, and with a follow up letter.
  1. Those applicants NOT selected will be encouraged to continue their 4-H involvement and be offered the opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills before applying for All Star again.  However, applying for All Star more than once does not guarantee selection.
