Event Information

The Livestock Field Day is an opportunity for youth to learn basic project knowledge, how to evaluate each species, for selection, and how to give reasons. Participants will be assigned a group and rotate through each species. The species the youth will be evaluating are: avian, beef, dairy, pygmy goats, market goat, rabbits, sheep, and swine. Primary members will have a rotation of all species but only be able to evaluate on primary species. Pygmy Goats, Avian, and Rabbits. Once youth have rotated through each species, they will then choose one to give reasons on.

 

Who?

All 4-H members are encouraged to participate. This event meets the requirements outlined in the Glenn County 4-H Fair Exhibition Requirements for the Livestock Exhibitors for the 2023-2024 4-H program year.

 

What?

The Livestock Field Day Event provides an opportunity for members to learn to evaluate and test their knowledge on Livestock Judging and then communicate their reasons to an evaluator.

 

When?

The Livestock Field Day will take place Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., with check-in at the north entrance of the Wool Building from 8:00 - 8:45 a.m.

 

Where?

Glenn County Fairgrounds, located at 221 E. Yolo Street, Orland, CA 95963. Please come through the main entrance.

 

How?

Register online at: http://ucanr.edu/u.cfm?id=335. Registration deadline is Monday, March 11, 2024. You must be pre-registered to participate. If you do not have computer access or need assistance registering for this event, please call the UCCE Office at (530) 865-1107.

 

Awards and Recognition:

Primary Members participating in the Livestock Field Day will receive a participation certificate and ribbon. Ribbons for 1st-15th place Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age divisions, and certificates will be presented for 1st-3rd place Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age divisions. There will also be a “Top 15 Judging Overall Award” with a combination of the Livestock Field Day Event top scores and the ABA Judging Event top scores, to be awarded at the annual Glenn County 4-H Star Awards and Leaders’ Appreciation Event. The club with the highest combined score of the top five members will be presented the Team Award at the Annual Star Awards.
