Biography
Chelsey Slattery joined the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) on September 18, 2017 as an Area Nutrition, Family, and Consumer Sciences Advisor in Butte County. Slattery earned an M.S. in Organizational Leadership from the School of Business Management at National University and a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from California State University, Chico.
Slattery has extensive experience directing successful comprehensive, multi-component nutrition programs through the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, UC Davis Center for Nutrition in Schools (CNS), the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, and the UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program.
Slattery's NFCS program is currently serving Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Sutter, and Yuba Counties. Slattery serves as the Principal investigator on a SNAP-Ed-funded grant that is responsible for implementing the UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program (NEP). Additionally, Slattery is serving as the Principal investigator on the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a federally-funded program through the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) that offers nutrition education to limited-resource families and children in Butte, Glenn, Colusa, Sutter, and Yuba Counties.
In her previous appointment, in collaboration with Dr. Zidenberg-Cherr, Dr. Scherr, Slattery managed the Shaping Healthy Choices Program (SHCP). The SHCP is a multi-component, school-based intervention that was developed to improve children’s health. The SHCP was first evaluated in a randomized, controlled intervention in four schools across two California school districts. Upon completion of the initial intervention that provided evidence of positive sustainable outcomes, the SHCP was adopted state-wide by the UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program and has since been implemented various counties across the state of California. These SHCP interventions have resulted in several peer-reviewed publications and limited distribution publications, known as “UC Delivers”, which highlight key programmatic impacts resulting from UC ANR extension and outreach activities.
