MASTER GARDENER TRAINING COURSE ANNOUNCED!

Are you interested in becoming a Glenn County Master Gardener?  If you love gardening, learning about gardening and sharing your knowledge with others, the UC Master Gardener program offers you the opportunity to learn and use your knowledge of gardening to serve the community.

Master Gardeners are volunteers trained and certified by the University of California Cooperative Extension in the areas of gardening and horticulture.  Since 1980, they have been extending information and providing technical assistance to gardeners in California.

Want to learn more about this program?  An orientation is scheduled on Saturday, November 7, 2019 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Glenn County UCCE Office, located at 821 E. South St., Orland, CA.  At this orientation, you will learn about the training requirements, the annual commitments and some of the amazing work that these volunteers do for their community.

The Master Gardener training courses will begin in January 2020, on Thursday afternoons from 1:00-4:30 p.m. at the UCCE Cooperative Extension Office at 821 E. South Street in Orland.   The course consists of over 50 hours of intensive training taught by University of California specialists and other professionals from the nursery and landscape industry. There is a fee of $200.00 to cover training class expenses. Along with instruction, you will also receive books and materials as part of your fee. Some of the topics to be covered include irrigation, soils, composting, fertilizer management, managing home orchards and vineyards, propagation, plant diseases, entomology, IPM, and many other subjects.
