Glenn County 4-H conducted scholarship interviews for graduating seniors on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Two very deserving 4-H youth members were evaluated on their application, individual interviews, and growth in the 4-H program. The recipients are heavily involved in the community, both inside and outside of 4-H. We couldn’t be prouder to award them with scholarship funds to further their education. Each recipient has worked hard to maintain excellent grades, gained work experience throughout their high school careers, and donated several hours of their time giving back to not only the 4-H program, but also their community.

Emily Karle of the Lake 4-H Community Club has been in 4-H for 13 years and is a Senior at Orland High School. Emily has previously held leadership roles as Club President, Club Treasurer, Club Reporter, and 4-H Camp Youth Director. She has been a role model for other members and assisted projects as a Teen Leader for the Dairy Project, the Veterinary Science Project, and the Archery Project. Emily has also served on several event committees and volunteered her time to help with Country Pumpkins Work Days, Fair Clean-up Days, 4-H Fundraiser Dinner, and Orland Trunk or Treat. Emily is always willing to help others and volunteers when she can. Through her experience in the Dairy Project and the Veterinary Science Project, Emily was able to discover her spark and choose a career path in large animal veterinary medicine. Emily will be pursuing her dreams in the fall to obtain an Animal Science Degree to become a veterinarian working on large animals and horses.

Glenn County 4-H Press Release - Glenn County Youth Celebrate National 4-H Week: October 1-7

October 10, 2023

Glenn County Youth Celebrate

National 4-H Week: October 1-7

Every year, National 4-H Week sees millions of youth, parents, volunteers, and alumni come together to celebrate the many positive youth development opportunities offered by 4-H. A campaign was created by the National 4-H Council to rally support for Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program and identify solutions to eliminate the opportunity gap that affects 55 million kids across America. The theme for this year’s National   4-H Week was “4-H is a Feeling – I Love 4-H.”

More than a feeling, 4-H provides empowering experiences that create confidence and foster a sense of belonging for kids everywhere. 4-H also provides youth a place to feel valued, heard, and connected. Through various project opportunities, such as quilting, arts & crafts, swine, dairy, archery, and baking to name a few, a space is created for learning, connecting, and belonging. Our dedicated volunteers provide impactful experiences to encourage growth in our youth and to assist in finding their spark.

Glenn County 4-H observed National 4-H Week this year by highlighting some of the inspirational 4-H youth in our community who are working tirelessly to support each other and their communities. The 4-H Program Community Education Specialist, Christine Kampmann, 4-H Advisor Nicole Marshall-Wheeler, and County Director, Betsy Karle, along with 4-H youth members Emily Karle and Jordan Thomas, presented the National 4-H Week Proclamation at the Glenn County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. In Glenn County, more than 500 4-H youth and 100 volunteers from the community are involved in the 4-H program.

About 4-H – 4-H, the nation’s largest youth development and empowerment organization, cultivates confident kids who tackl

LOCAL FOUNDATION SUPPORTS GLENN COUNTY 4-H

A recent donation by the Barceloux Tibesaart Foundation has provided all new 4-H Water Wizards curriculum, a hands-on watershed model, and supplies to deliver to the different schools in Glenn County for youth in school enrichment programs, reports 4-H Community Education Specialist, Christine Kampmann. This includes groups or classrooms of youth receiving a sequence of learning experiences in cooperation with school officials during school hours to support the school curriculum. Direct teaching is done by UCCE 4-H YDP staff, trained 4-H adult volunteers, teen leaders, classroom teachers or other school personnel using 4-H YDP curriculum or other educational materials.

The 4-H Water Wizard Project is a 12-week science education project that is geared toward 4th-6th grade students about the importance of water. Delivered to children in their classroom, students will participate in hands-on learning experiences that encourage inquiry, teach basic information about, and develop an awareness of water in their communities. Over the 12 weeks, students will learn about the water cycle, their community watershed, and how to keep the waterways clean, discover water density and learn the science of soap and suds. Also, as a part of the curriculum, youth take action on water issues in their community, by choosing and planning a community service-learning project.

Glenn County Youth to Celebrate

National 4-H Week: October 2-8

Every year, National 4-H Week sees millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni come together to celebrate the many positive youth development opportunities offered by 4-H. A campaign was created by National 4-H Council to rally support for Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program and identify solutions to eliminate the opportunity gap that affects 55 million kids across America. The theme for this year’s National   4-H Week is “Opportunity4All.” 4-H Brings opportunity and experiences to kids from all backgrounds.

With so many children struggling to reach their full potential, 4-H believes that young people, in partnership with adults, can play a key role in creating a more promising and equitable future for youth, families and communities across the country. 5K Run/Walk Was A Huge Hit

On Sunday, March 25, 2018, Glenn County 4-H hosted a Color Me Green 5K Run/Walk at Lake Elementary School. The Color Me Green 5K Run/Walk is a five-kilometer course located in the beautiful countryside of the Capay area.  This run is designed to encourage youth and community members, ages 0-90, to increase their physical activity while also having fun!

During the run, participants were doused, from head to toe, with a safe green cornstarch solution as they passed through each marker point. This run, hosted by 4-H youth members, was a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate healthy. This race was the first of many for Glenn County 4-H.  Participants who were asked if they would refer it to a friend, almost unanimously agreed they would.  “I loved the green chalk.  It was a lot of fun and the support staff did a great job”, said one of the participants.

In fact, the whole community rallied behind the event and was instrumental in its success.  Over 85 participants and volunteers attended this event.  Not only were 4-H members enjoying this race, but also over 60 of those that attended were members of the community!  Volunteers were present to help with everything from setting up to cleaning up.  Kudos also go out to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Orland Fire Department and the Glenn County Road Department.  The involvement of these organizations made
